The Disaster Risk Management Division (DRMD) wishes to inform the public that following the rockfall incident of 15th September 2025 at Beoliere, Port Glaud, the affected zone has been formally declared a Potential Disaster Area under the Disaster Risk Management Act, 2014.
Technical assessments have confirmed that a large overhanging boulder slab, estimated to weigh more than 200 tons, remains critically unstable. The slab poses a high risk of further collapse, with potential to endanger lives, damage homes, and disrupt critical infrastructure including roads and utility services.
In order to safeguard residents and reduce the immediate risks, the Government has approved urgent mitigation works to remove the unstable rock mass and stabilise the surrounding boulder range.
As part of these works:
- Residents within the immediate hazard area will be temporarily evacuated for their safety.
- Evacuation will be coordinated by the respective District Authority, with support from the Seychelles Police, who will ensure the security of homes during the absence of residents.
- Individual consultations will be conducted to address livelihood concerns of affected households by the respective District Authority.
- The exact timeline and duration of the mitigation works will be communicated directly to the affected residents once confirmed by the engineering teams.
The DRMD emphasises that these measures are preventive and life-saving, and are being implemented in the best interest of the community. The Division calls on the public for their full cooperation and understanding, especially those residing in or travelling through Beoliere, Port Glaud.
Further updates will be issued as works progress. Members of the public are urged to follow official announcements and avoid speculation.
